2019 GOLD KEY AWARDS
BEST LOBBY LUXURY
W ATLANTA – MIDTOWN
THE DESIGN FIRM: Virserius Studio, New York
THE MUSE: Make “Arthur,” a fictional character who inspired the design narrative, come to life. “The hotel is intended as a recreation of his estate and secret garden,” says Therese Virserius, founder/lead designer, Virserius Studio.
THE MAGIC: The palette here is a deep thought. Dominant jewel tones reinforce the feeling of being in an elegant, cinematic narrative from the moment guests walk in the door.
THE MAVERICK MOVE: Arthur has good taste! The design team went the extra mile to source objects that suit his story. Wood beads, dyed jade green, in the elevator vestibule are a memento from his travels to the Far East. Cascading light fixtures that resemble birdcages are reminiscent of his North African travels (but they also humanize the scale of the three-story lobby).
THE MESSAGE: Having an elaborate, exotic design story can fly, even in an age of “local.” A “Thousand and One Nights”-inspired den works in the context. Why not dream big?
