The Rambler Motel

This guestroom channels a lot of love for 1970s roadside inns

2019 GOLD KEY AWARDS
BEST GUESTROOM FOCUSED SERVICE

FINALIST
THE RAMBLER MOTEL
CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA

THE DESIGN FIRM: Eat.Drink.Sleep in-house design team, San Diego

THE MUSE: Channel a whole lotta love for 1970s roadside inns into a tight-budget renovation.

THE MAGIC: “We sweat the small stuff,” says Anthony Garcia, director of design, Eat.Drink.Sleep. That means genius moments such as a collage that looks like a road map.

THE MAVERICK MOVE: Daring to be happy, really happy, in a sector that’s trending toward quirky or streamlined. Everything, from the warm palette to the pool views (in some cases), about these rooms invites guests to smile, maybe LOL and soak up the shameless joyfulness that defines the former Goodnite Inn.

THE MESSAGE: Be a nerd. Those hours of research and brainstorming will pay off.
