After a decade of development, Design Hotels’ highly anticipated Zuri Zanzibar made its debut this fall. London- and Prague-based firm Jestico & Whiles designed the property’s 55 thatched-roof bungalows and villas, creating a look described as modern-meets-traditional African design.
Taking its name from the Swahili word for beautiful and arranged as a clustered village, the resort is the brand’s first property on the Tanzanian archipelago. The resort’s villas span over 13 acres, and each has an ocean or garden view. Project participants say the design team took a holistic and ecological approach to the 10-year project.
The Maua Wellness program, which includes an open-air gym, spa and training facility, was also recently added to the resort. Seven restaurants and bars, an infinity pool, a watersports center and a spice garden round out the development.
