InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) will debut its boutique Kimpton Hotels & Resorts brand and recently launched upscale flag voco Hotels in the United Kingdom with several anticipated rebrandings in partnership with Covivio (formerly Fonciere des Regions). Through the partnership, one pipeline hotel will join the IHG portfolio and 12 high-end open hotels will rebrand.
The properties currently operate under the Principal Hotels and De Vere Hotels brands and were acquired from Barry Sternlicht’s Starwood Capital Group earlier this year. London’s Bloomsbury neighborhood will be home to the first Kimpton outpostin the U.K. and complete its rebrand later this year. Currently The Principal London, the hotel is located in Russell Square and originally opened in 1898.
The Principal Manchester (which won a Gold Key Award for Excellence in Hospitality Design in 2017) will become a Kimpton next year. The property comprises three buildings that date back to the last century and sit on the corners of Oxford St. and Whitworth St. Additionally, The Principal Edinburgh Charlotte Square will also fly the Kimpton flag in 2019.. In Glasgow, the former home of the Royal Scottish Automobile Association which now houses The Principal Blythswood Square Hotel will reposition as a Kimpton next year..
The voco Hotels brand, which was launched last month as a conversion brand in IHG’s commitment to broaden its footprint in the $40 billion upscale segmentwill debut in the U.K. with the rebrand of Cardiff’s The Principal St. David’s Hotel.
Four more hotels will become part of IHG’s portfolio under other brands. Edinburgh’s historical Principal Edinburgh George Street will join the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts brand. The Principal Met Leeds Hotel will rebrand in 2020 as Hotel Indigo. The Principal York will rebrand at a date to be determined. De Vere Wotton House hotel, located near Dorking Surrey, will operate as an unbranded hotel called Wotton House.
The remaining three open hotels will join IHG in the third quarter of this year, with brands yet to be determined. Those hotels include: The Principal Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow; De Vere Oxford Thames; and The Principal Oxford Spires Hotel.
