Marriott Intl. and developer Lightstone are proceeding with plans for a 285-key Moxy hotel in New York’s East Village, the city’s third representative of that lifestyle flag. Details about the latest Moxy were contained in a news release from Lightstone saying it has secured $91 million in financing from Bank of the Ozarks for the East Village locale.
Information on the architects/designers behind the project were not immediately available. However, in its release, Lightstone said the design concept for Moxy East Village will be based on “urban archeology” that references the city’s past, present and future. Conceived as a vertical timeline, each floor will reveal a different layer in Lower Manhattan’s history. The micro-room, macro-amenity hotel will also offer a rooftop fitness center, coworking spaces and six F&B venues.
“With its lively restaurant scene and vibrant nightlife, the East Village is the perfect location for our third Moxy hotel in New York,” says Lightstone president Mitchell Hochberg. “Featuring a large array of amenities, efficient use of space and lounges that bring travelers and the local community together, Moxy East Village will be a dynamic addition to the neighborhood.”
The real estate company also developed the 612-key Moxy Times Square (shown), which opened last fall and was featured in the November 2017 edition of Boutique Design. In addition, Lightstone is developing Moxy Chelsea, opening this fall, and seven additional Moxy properties in locales such as South Beach, Miami; downtown Los Angeles; and West Hollywood, California.
