Setai, Nakash Holdings’ luxury hotel brand, is set to open its second property in Israel. The Setai, Tel Aviv is slated to open early next year as part of the World Ltd.’s collection of independent luxury hotels.

Located in the Jaffa area of Tel, Aviv, the hotel will be housed at the historic Kishle, a 13th century structure originally built by the Turkish Empire as a prison. Israeli-based Feigin Architects is leading the restoration of the property, adding two additional floors and a new wing. Some features of the original Kishle, including the wooden ceilings and ironwork, are being been preserved.

A large arch at the hotel’s entrance will remain, bearing the seal of Abdul Hamid II, the 34th sultan of the Turkish Empire. Other elements, such as the wooden doors and windows, are being re-created in the style of the originals. Former prison yards are being restored and will serve as the hotel’s front and rear courtyards.

The 120-key hotel’s interiors are being spearheaded by the London office of Ara Design and blend Middle Eastern and Mediterranean elements into what project participants call an “old meets new” design aesthetic. Most of the guest rooms’ outer walls are the building’s original stone. Contemporary oak furnishings, pendant lights and leather accent panels will be juxtaposed against traditional Arabic wall patterns and detailed rugs. Guest bathrooms will feature electronic LED glass partitions, gray marble floors, full baths and separate showers.

The reception area will include vaulted ceilings and a doorway with Turkish ottoman calligraphy. The lobby lounge will also feature ornate carpets, lacquered walls, chandeliers and a full bar that’s flanked by reclaimed timber from the building’s original roof. The property will offer four levels of glass-paneled terraces and below-ground event space, a spa and Turkish Hammam.

The Tel Aviv property will be the brand’s second location in Israel, following the debut of the Setai, Sea of Galilee in May. The flag also operates a hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.
