Salishan Resort’s new owner is making a multi-million dollar investment that will include a revamp of the Oregon coastal property’s lobby and attic lounge, guest arrival experience and landscaping, as well as the addition of a luxury glamping experience. The owner, an affiliate of Southern California-based Alpha Wave Investors LLC, has tapped Portland’s ELK Collective to lead the design efforts, Tigard-based Synergo to develop the eco-adventure facilities and Lifescapes Intl. to create the landscaping and arrival enhancements. Improvements are underway and slated to be completed prior to summer season.

The capital program will also involve a treetop canopy tour and ropes challenge course, mountain biking trails, new curated art programs and the addition of an on-site garden. Alpha Wave says the improvements represent a modern, upscale interpretation of the property’s original vision, with an emphasis on resort-wide wellness, as well as casual, unpretentious dining designed to foster social connections.

“Salishan was created as a pure concept—a special place for people to connect with each other, with nature and with art,” says Ken Cruse, founding partner and ceo of Alpha Wave. “We plan to bring Salishan back to its roots, but in a way that resonates with modern travelers. The new Salishan will cater to people who respect the planet as deeply as they care for their own personal wellness; appeal to people who value experiences over material things; draw people who seek out adventure as well as relaxation; and serve people who appreciate tranquility and solitude as much as camaraderie and personal connections.”

The enhancements are designed to complement other recently completed renovations at the resort. Salishan’s 205 accommodations have been redesigned with a look that project participants say connects the resort to its wooded setting while incorporating updated hard and soft goods, spacious sitting areas, multiple USB charging ports, and new outdoor decks and patio furniture.

Public spaces throughout the resort also recently received a refresh, including new furniture, paint and accessories. The paintings, sculptures and installations that the resort has curated over time continue to anchor the property, which is managed by Westmont, Illinois-based Portfolio Hotels & Resorts. The works of Northwest artists, most from Oregon, are displayed throughout the lodge, while more than 500 original drawings, prints and watercolors are showcased in the guest rooms.
