French architect Jean Nouvel designed and furnished the newly opened the Rooms of Rome, 24 serviced apartments located over four floors in palazzo rhinoceros, a historic palace conceived by the Fondazione Alda Fendi – Esperimenti.
The space was designed not as traditional living spaces, but rather as open areas that balance modern furnishings and décor with features such as exposed brick and rustic beams. Roman history is the foundation for much of the design, and views of surrounding landmarks can be seen through the apartments’ windows.
Kike Sarasola, president and founder of Room Mate Group, will manage the property. Room Mate Hotels currently operates 24 hotels in 14 cities worldwide, including Room Mate Giulia in Milan and Room Mate Isabella and Room Mate Luca in Florence. Rooms of Rome is the start of one of Sarasola’s pending projects, The Rooms of the World, which will span across Europe and ultimately globally.
Caviar Kaspia Roma, the gallery restaurant, is located on the fifth and sixth floors of the palazzo rhinoceros and connected to the exhibition gallery areas of the Fondazione Alda Fendi – Esperimenti. The space showcases three panoramic terraces that look out over Imperial Rome. Interiors feature large windows with views to the Forum, and rectangular mirrors are hung across the entire wall so that guests can see the views outside.
