Studio Hillier, the Princeton, New Jersey-based architectural firm of J. Robert and Barbara Hillier, will design StarPort Resorts Inc.’s Port St. George, The Bahamas’ eco-engineered luxury resort in the Out Islands.

Long Island is the setting for the 882-acre luxury resort that spans from Exuma Sound to the Atlantic Ocean. It will showcase a 5-star hotel on a peninsula on Exuma Sound. The centerpiece of the project will be a 100-acre protected harbor where 640 pleasure crafts can be moored. A harbor village is set to house retail shops, lodging, restaurants, 500 condominiums, 15 villas and services for the island community. A golf course, tennis courts and sporting fields will be built on the land between the harbor and the Atlantic ridge.

Port St. George will be dedicated to eco-engineering and sustainability, and Studio Hillier plans to implement the latest technology into the infrastructure and the residential and commercial buildings to meet that commitment. Photovoltaics and high-tech battery storage systems, rainwater retention systems, composting of refuse and geothermal air conditioning will be used throughout the project. The development’s goal is to have a minimal carbon footprint.

This type of project is in the Hilliers’ wheelhouse. They designed Harbour Island in Tampa, Florida; the Sprint World Headquarters in Kansas; The Irving Convention Center in Texas; and New Jersey’s first Planned Unit Development, Twin Rivers in East Windsor.
