V Starr Interiors has promoted its former design director, Sonya Haffey, to vice president and has hired Holly Nixon as its new design director. Adding three new employees last year, the West Palm Beach, Florida-based interior design firm has expanded to 12 team members since it was founded in 2002 by professional tennis player Venus Williams.

During her nearly 10 years of leading the firm’s day-to-day operations, Haffey helped expand V Starr’s scope of work from being exclusively residential to also encompassing commercial projects. Under her guidance, the firm has landed work with clients such as Related Group, Midtown Athletic Club and Niido Powered by Airbnb.

“Sonya’s been a major part of this growth, and I’m grateful to have her advice and leadership as vice president,” says Williams, the firm’s principal and ceo. (Williams also served as the keynote speaker at Boutique Design New York 2015.)

Born in the U.K., Nixon has more than 12 years interior design experience. Her hospitality portfolio includes several public spaces at The Corona Resort and Casino in Phu Quoc, Vietnam; a guestroom remodel at the Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Sacramento, California; the design of Hakkasan Group’s Yauatcha Restaurant in Houston and Waikiki, Hawaii; a pool deck renovation at the Four Seasons Las Vegas; and the Sandia Casino Resort, Spa & Pavilion in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She’s also executed multiple concepts for MGM including a Millennial Gaming Space, a Vivid Juice Bar and a Gourmet Burger Bar.

“We look forward to having Holly’s well-informed international perspective when working on new projects,” says Haffey. “We’re glad to have her perspective in hospitality as well, stemming from a vast and diverse range of work.”
