Wanda Plans Istanbul Hotel
Starck designing luxury property
Wanda Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with Turkish real estate developer/investor Mar Yapı to build a luxury hotel in Istanbul’s business district. Famed French designer Philippe Starck has been selected to create the look of the 150-key Wanda Vista hotel, which is slated to debut by the end of next year.
“Wanda Vista Istanbul is more than just the first Wanda hotel to be opened overseas; it is also the first brand we have marketed overseas,” says Qian Jin, president of Wanda Hotels & Resorts. “It marks another significant step toward our goal of becoming a respected international luxury hotel company from China.”
By the end of 2016, the number of luxury hotels owned and operated by Wanda reached 104 in China. The Istanbul locale joins six other international projects the hotelier is working on, including those in, Sydney, Chicago, Los Angeles and London. All those hotels will fly the Wanda Vista luxury flag.
The company’s in-house design unit, Wanda Hotel Design Institute (Wanda HDI), was named the 2016 Gold Key Designer of the Year. Wanda HDI also earned five first-place honors for its projects in the competition for excellence in hospitality design.
“We are delighted to be working together with Wanda Hotels & Resorts, which has a clear competitive edge among hotel brands,” says Munir Ozkok, chairman of Mar Yapı. “Among 50 major cities in China where Wanda hotels operate, more than 50 percent of them have achieved outstanding performance, being the lead in the market. As China and Turkey move toward closer economic cooperation, I am confident Wanda Vista Istanbul will successfully offer oriental services that delight guests not only from China but from many other countries globally.”
