St. Regis Resort Undergoing Update

HBA, Maldonado spearhead $60M renovation of Puerto Rican destination

Boutique Design

The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort in Puerto Rico is slated to reopen in late October, following a property-wide renovation. The $60 million refresh will include the property’s 139 guest rooms, designed by the San Francisco office of Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) and Puerto Rican designer Nono Maldonado. An additional $30 million expansion that will add 60 oceanfront rooms to the hotel is also in the works, but a timeline for that phase has not been set.

Additionally, the St. Regis complex will launch an $85 million beachfront, ultra-luxury residential development, The Ocean Drive Residences, created by Miami-based SB Architects and HBA’s San Francisco studio. Comprising of 30 condominiums in three beachfront buildings, the development will offer three- and four-bedroom residences and penthouse models ranging in size from 3,400 to 4,000 sq. ft. The first building is under development and is expected to be completed by June 2019.

The existing resort’s renovation is inspired by the surrounding sea, sand and foliage, with refurbished rooms and suites showcasing a light, modern and organic aesthetic. Featuring a color palette of whites and light blues, guest rooms will include custom furniture pieces such as a glass bar cabinet. This light-centric design is also seen in the Plantation House, home to the beach resort’s signature fine-dining restaurant and St. Regis Bar. The seaside pool and esplanade are also being refurbished, and will offer a casual dining restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, as well as house a new Iridium Spa.
