sbe Expands in Mexico City
Group plans to bring 10 hotels to area
sbe is partnering with Be Grand and its ceo Nicolas Carrancedo to expand the Mondrian flag to Mexico City. The debut hotel in the Mexican capital will be the first of 10 sbe-branded properties that the partners will bring to the city over the next five years.
The first property, the 144-room Mondrian Polanco Hotel & Residences, will break ground this quarter and open in 2021. Designed by Colonnier y Asociados, the development will include 126 branded residences as well as Katsuya, another sbe culinary concept and a soon-to-be-announced signature sbe mixology venue.
The second property will be Mondrian Del Valle, also designed by Colonnier y Asociados, which will open in 2022. The project will include 248 branded residences. In addition to the Mondrian properties, the pending projects include other sbe brands such as SLS and HYDE. These developments will see sbe bring over 25 restaurant and lounge concepts featuring brands such as Carna, Katsuya, Fi'lia, Cleo, S Bar and Doheny Room.
sbe executives say the developments point to the overall global expansion of the hospitality group as well as the critical role Mexico plays in its strategy. It also substantiates sbe’s residential platform, which has sold 1,300 branded units to date valued at $2 billion, with $1.8 billion more in the pipeline.
