Renaissance Opens in Bali
Resort and spa in Uluwatu marks the Marriott hotel brand's debut in Indonesia
Marriott Intl.’s Renaissance Hotels brand has made its debut in Indonesia with a new property on Bali’s Bukit peninsula. Project participants say the 207-key Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa design reinterprets the destination’s rocky-cliff coastlines through contrasting materials, such as raw concrete and refined rattan. Information regarding the resort’s interior designer was not immediately available.
Balanced on the southernmost edge of Bali, Ulu meaning "Lands' end" and Watu meaning "Rock," the hotel showcases an exterior roof design inspired by the leatherback sea turtle that has come to nest on the Bukit for centuries.
Each of the guestrooms and suites includes a private balcony, bathrooms that showcase freestanding tubs and designs that layer Ikat patterns on tiles and textiles. The accommodations’ interiors complement traditional Balinese accents, bringing together wooden floors and bamboo with sculptural water features.
The Clay Craft, the hotel's signature three-meal restaurant and coffee house, features an interactive pottery school concept within its space, while the soon-to-open Double Ikat serves Indonesian cuisine and offers a cooking studio that allows guests to learn the techniques of the country’s cookery as taught by the chef in the restaurant's open-plan kitchen. The resort’s other F&B venues include the Pool Bar situated near the property’s three outdoor pools, and R Bar, located in the hotel’s lobby.
