Lark Adds Danforth
1823 mansion turned inn joins boutique portfolio
Lark Hotels, a boutique hotel company with more than 20 properties in New England and beyond, added its second property in Portland, Maine.
The Danforth was originally built in 1823 as a private mansion, and it will undergo a full renovation and redesign under Lark Hotels in 2020. The boutique property celebrates its history through large art works and vintage accents inspired by its affluent and well-traveled former owners. The inn’s nine guestrooms each showcase their own look, but a sophisticated and warm theme unites all of them. White gallery walls create a bright and inviting space, while architectural details, textured fabrics and soft accents are bold against the otherwise neutral palette.
In addition to indoor and outdoor lounge space, the property houses an onsite dining area for private events and gatherings. Once The Danforth’s restaurant, this function room can comfortably seat over 60 guests. There is also a speakeasy-turned-billiards room, an underground hideaway designed during Prohibition with opaque stained glass windows that fill the space.
