NY Marriott Refreshes Rooms
Krause Sawyer leads interior design
New York-based design firm Krause Sawyer completed the first phase of its renovation of the New York Marriott Downtown’s 509 guestrooms and six suites.
Classic meets contemporary in the design, and the team chose a soothing neutral palette that reflects the colors of local modern and historical architecture, while sleek parquet floors call to mind an old-world elegance. Accents are executed in patterns of lines reflecting those in nature, transportation, and architecture both new and old. The hotel’s location near the Battery Park waterfront is emphasized by bringing inside elements reminiscent of water and nature.
Guestrooms are highlighted by refined details such as wall panel molding and luxe parquet flooring throughout. Carpet tile lies at the bedside and living area, creating a continuous line within the space. Dark paint around the windows emphasizes the natural light pouring in. In the hotel’s suites, paint-applied decorative molding with inset custom sculptural artwork adds depth.
Krause Sawyer has also redesigned the Concierge Lounge, featuring a new marble-look entry portal. Panel molding and integrated millwork surround columns. Axminster carpet grounds semi-private screen wall panels in wood and steel. The mix of new and old continues with the juxtaposition of a white entry portal, semi-private screen walls, parquet flooring, a buffet counter with storage and stone inset back panels, computer ledge and panel molding walls. The furnishings are monolithic and natural, featuring casegoods with warm, posh, and easy soft goods. Separation of the long space is accomplished through a variety of seating, differing table heights, and custom furniture.
