Kimpton Enters Tokyo
Hotel marks brand’s Japanese debut
A new 162-room Kimpton hotel is headed to Tokyo. The Kimpton Tokyo Shinjuku, developed by partners InterContinental Hotels Group and Tsukada Global Holdings, is set to open in 2020 and will be the first property for the brand in the country.
The boutique hotel will feature a playful design that makes use of its location in the skyscraper district, surrounded by some of the tallest buildings in the city as well as department stores, subterranean malls and entertainment district Kabukicho. Rounding out the property’s footprint are three meeting spaces that can accommodate up to 300 people, a wellness studio and a multifunctional chapel.
The development is a step forward for IHG’s growth trajectory for deals in Greater China and Southeast Asia.
“It’s wonderful to see the Kimpton brand gaining such momentum in Asia and across the globe. It is one of the world’s most beloved luxury lifestyle brands, with each hotel bringing to life a unique character,” says Kenneth Macpherson, ceo of Europe Middle East Asia and Africa at IHG. “This hotel’s thoughtful approach to design will highlight the best of Tokyo’s vibrant Shinjuku district, providing truly unique guest experiences with ridiculously personal service. With a strong and growing interest for luxury hotels and lifestyle brands, Kimpton Tokyo Shinjuku will undoubtedly have a bright future of growth, and we look forward to growing the brand in Japan and throughout the region.”
