IHG RELAUNCHES REGENT
Brand inks first deal since hotelier’s acquisition
The first hotel for the Regent Hotels & Resorts brand has been signed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. InterContinental Hotels Group is relaunching the brand after it acquired a 51% stake in Regent for $39 million in cash this year.
Multibay Development Sdn. Bhd will develop the Regent Kuala Lumpur. It will be located next to the Tun Razak Exchange project that will become the next financial district of Kuala Lumpur and an extension to the city’s golden triangle. In addition, plans are already underway to rebrand the InterContinental Hong Kong to a Regent hotel in 2021. The rebrand will see the hotel return to its roots, having first opened as a Regent in 1980.
The relaunched Regent brand includes three promises that each hotel will deliver: “majestically intimate” with tailored experiences; “on their terms” is designed for a combination of attentive service and seamless technology; and “inspiring discoveries” enables guests to discover the best of local culture.
IHG intends to grow the Regent portfolio from six hotels today to more than 40 hotels in global gateway cities and iconic resort locations.
