Four Seasons Heads To Makkah
Foster + Partners designing company’s second hotel in Saudi Arabia
Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts is teaming with Jabal Omar Development Co. (JODC) for a new hotel in Makkah (also known as Mecca). Spearheading the hotel’s design is London-based Foster + Partners, which won an international competition for the commission. A timetable for the project was not disclosed.
Four Seasons Hotel Makkah will be located near the Al-Masjid Al-Harām (the Grand Mosque). It will include about 375 guest rooms and suites, each with one or more private prayer rooms, as well as 90 private residences. The hotel will also include three restaurants and lounges, a ballroom and meeting rooms, and a spa and fitness center.
“As Four Seasons continues to expand its portfolio in the Middle East, we are pleased to partner with JODC to create a fully customized Four Seasons experience in Makkah,” says J. Allen Smith, the hotelier’s president and ceo. “Each Four Seasons is reflective of its destination and the people who stay with us, and this project in particular is designed to accommodate the unique needs of those who visit Makkah. This magnificent new building will set the stage for tailored service in a luxurious environment, enhancing the connection to this important place for all who visit.”
“Four Seasons will be the jewel in the Jabal Omar master development plan,” says Yasser Faisal Al-Sharif, ceo of Jabal Omar Development Co. “With our design partners and Four Seasons, we will bring to life a vision for the ultimate hospitality experience to enhance Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.”
The Makkah hotel will be Four Seasons’ second location in Saudi Arabia, joining one in Riyadh. The company currently operates 106 hotels, resorts and residences in 44 countries, with more than 50 projects in its development pipeline.
