The Last Planned for St. Louis
ESG leads boutique hotel's interior design
St. Louis will get a new boutique in the spring of 2019 with the opening of The Last Hotel from owner and developer Tim Dixon of Fe Equus and manager Trust Hospitality. With interiors designed by Minneapolis-based ESG, the 142-room property represents a mixed bag of textures, colors, time periods and patterns.
Designers were inspired by the creative diversity of the city’s culture during the process of rehabbing the former International Shoe Co. building located in the city's Garment District. Original marble and terrazzo flooring, ornate column capitals and bronze lighting fixtures have been restored. The Vienna Secession art movement, which inspired the building’s original architecture, is referenced throughout the interiors with strong geometric lines, period-inspired lighting and high-contrast patterns. The building’s former life is displayed through lacing and leather details as well as nods to the Weatherbird and Star brand shoes once manufactured at the factory.
The hotel will feature three food and beverage outlets: The Last Kitchen & Bar, The Pantry and The Rooftop. Over 6,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, including two ballrooms, finish off the property’s offerings.
