Hotel Serra Heads to Cali
Project’s façade incorporates two vintage brick storefronts
Beverley and Shaun Matthews, known for the development and reimagining of several landmark properties, are bringing the Hotel Serra to downtown San Luis Obispo in California next year. Project participants say the design will balance urban chic with the city’s historic ties.
The hotel’s main façade incorporates two vintage brick storefronts on Garden Street. Guests will enter through the restored 1920s Smith building into the lobby of the luxury 65-room hotel. Designed and built with LEED Silver specifications, the hotel’s décor reflects a blend of three periods that combine a contemporary feel and 19th century industrial influences with a nod to Mission style.
The property also includes a signature meeting space, the Olive Tree, which accommodates up to 75 people. The space features a wet bar, butler’s pantry, a fireplace and frameless floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open fully to create an indoor/outdoor space. A pool deck is situated on the roof of the hotel. Dining options include Brasserie SLO, the Lobby Lounge & Mission Fig Patio, and Sweet Life of Pie.
