Boutique Design Events and Trade Fairs

Maggio and Ignazio Cipriani have unveiled plans to fly their Mr. C hotel flag in New York. The hospitality management duo is repositioning the former Seaport Inn in Lower Manhattan as a 66-key boutique property, marking the family’s first hotel in the city. Danish architect Thomas Juul-Hansen is spearheading the design for Mr. C Seaport, creating an aesthetic that reflects the brand’s European style and nautical references.

The developers behind the flag’s Los Angeles property, Bob and Alex Ghassemieh, are the owners/developers of the New York outpost, which is slated to debut late this year and will be operated by the Cipriani family.

Located on the corner of Peck Slip and Front Street, the property is currently undergoing a major interior reconstruction that will reference the revitalization of the surrounding Seaport District by The Howard Hughes Corp. while maintaining the building’s red brick façade, project participants say.

Accommodations, including 10 suites with balcony terraces, will be decked out with teak veneer, rain showers and Italian linens. Additional on-site amenities will include a lobby lounge for afternoon tea, private function space, fitness facilities and a Cipriani Italian dining venue.

“We are extremely excited to be a part of the vision of The Howard Hughes Corp. to revitalize this unique, historically rich and storied part of Manhattan,” says Ignazio Cipriani. “With the opening of our first hotel in New York, we could not be more pleased to complement the dynamic transformation underway at the Seaport.”

The family also operates four restaurants, three event spaces and Cipriani branded residences in the city. Mr. C Seaport marks their first hotel endeavor on the East Coast and will serve as a bicoastal anchor for the Mr. C Beverly Hills hotel.

“After many years of searching for the appropriate location and opportunity within New York City, we are pleased to continue the growth of the Mr. C Hotel brand with our partners,” said Bob Ghassemieh, developer of the Mr. C Seaport hotel. “The rebirth taking place in the Seaport District as a dining, retail and entertainment destination makes it the perfect home for Mr. C’s only New York hotel.”
