Moxy Hotels, Marriott Intl.’s experiential boutique brand, has debuted its newest location, in Midtown Manhattan. Housed in the former New Mills Hotel, Moxy Times Square was developed by Lightstone and features 612 bedrooms and more than 22,000 sq. ft. of event space.
The property’s design team features several well-known names, including Stonehill & Taylor, which divided the interior spaces into guest rooms ranging from 150 to 350 sq. ft., and Yabu Pushelberg, which designed the bedrooms, lobby and second floor spaces.
The rooms include Yabu Pushelberg-designed foldaway furniture, walk-in rain showers, wood-frame beds with storage and pegboard closets. The lobby, meantime, features check-in kiosks and New Stand, a New York-based chain of boutique convenience stores.
Rockwell Group designed the restaurant and bar spaces at the hotel. Bar Moxy in the second floor lobby lounge features a copper-wrapped bar at its center and a triple-height atrium skylight. The space in split into two areas by sliding copper-framed glass doors. On one side is a plug-and-play lounge with seating areas, power outlets and a DJ booth. On the other side are three multipurpose event spaces. Behind the bar is The Pickup, a greenhouse-inspired twist on the traditional grab-and-go concept.
Tao Group created the food and beverage programs for restaurant spaces, including Legasea, a 185-seat seafood brasserie; Egghead, an egg-centric all-day breakfast spot; and Magic Hour Rooftop Bar and Lounge featuring an urban amusement park concept.
The Magic Hour’s lobby showcases a large funhouse mirror and leads guests into five distinct environments. The entrance hall features topiary animals designed by TAO Group. A small urban-industrial interior lounge includes wire mesh panels riveted to the ceiling and walls. There are also two separate outdoor areas: one with garden party fixtures and the other with a carnival-esque setting that includes seating on a rotating carousel. Also on the rooftop is Foreplay, a miniature putt-putt course designed by Tao.

The opening of Moxy Times Square marks the brand’s 15th locale, and the first of five representatives of the flag planned for New York. Overall, Moxy plans 10 additional openings this year, including properties in Berlin, Frankfurt, Seattle and Tokyo.
