Montage Intl.’s new Pendry Hotels luxury brand has made its debut, in downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. Developed by Robert Green Co., the 317-key hotel was designed by Awbrey Cook Rogers McGill Architects + Interiors, while Rottet Studio and Studio Munge teamed on the interiors. David Reed Construction was the project’s contractor.

It’s a hotel experience that should feel organic and luxurious at the same time and the San Diego property will bring that vision to life beautifully.”
A second Pendry hotel is slated to open soon in Baltimore. Montage is teaming on that 128-key project with Sagamore Development Co., the development enterprise of Under Armour founder and ceo Kevin Plank. War Horse LLC, owned by Plank’s brother and former Under Armour executive Scott Plank, is also a partner in that project.
Pendry San Diego features a centrally located hub designed for working, relaxing, socializing and dining, as well as a pop-up art gallery curated by Tom Adler that showcases Ron Church surf photography.
Guest accommodations showcase custom furnishings and what projects participants describe as a “sophisticated yet understated design nod to the city’s beach and surf culture.” The hotel’s 36 suites overlook the city skyline and harbor or the Gaslamp Quarter’s historic streets, or offer access to The Pool House rooftop lounge’s outdoor deck.
The hotel is also home to a range of restaurants, bars, nightlife, retail and wellness venues.
Designed in partnership with Raan and Lindsay Parton from Los Angeles’ Alchemy Works retail concept, Provisional Kitchen, Café & Mercantile is a restaurant/marketplace offering seasonal fare and gourmet grab-and-go offerings from executive chef Chris Osbourne. The communal dining space features a Vittoria Coffee espresso bar, high ceilings, bistro tables and a retail marketplace set within a greenhouse that offers homeware, ceramics, apothecary items, pantry staples and jewelry.
Meanwhile, Nason’s Beer Hall is decked out with vintage bar games. Its name pays homage to a farmer’s market that occupied the site in the early 1900s.
Serving elevated bar fare, Fifth & Rose takes cues from a residential living room and is decorated with rich stone and a palette of pink, green and black punctuated by crimson details, candles and fresh roses.
Lionfish, a dinner-only restaurant that serves sushi, seafood and coastal cuisine from executive chef Jose “JoJo” Ruiz in a two-floor dining room, was developed in partnership with Andy Masi’s Clique Hospitality.
Clique also developed Oxford Social Club, the hotel’s residentially inspired nightlife concept, which features banquette seating, plush furnishings and art installations, as well as The Pool House, a rooftop lounge overlooking 5th Avenue.
In addition, the property features Spa Pendry, as well as 35,000 sq. ft. of indoor/outdoor meeting and event space, including a Grand Ballroom, customizable Parlor and Salon rooms, an al fresco poolside deck and several private dining options.
