Kimpton Hotel Monaco Chicago, has completed a full renovation of its lobby, guestrooms and suites. The redesign from The Gettys Group takes inspiration from Lake Michigan and the development along the Chicago Riverwalk, visible from the hotel’s window seats.
The lobby topped off the final phase of the renovation this past month, while guestrooms were completed in the spring. The living room-style space is anchored by a front desk with a pressed glass covering, reminiscent of the Chicago River frozen in winter. A library cart curated by the Newberry Library invites guests to check out books during their stay.
The century-old building has a colorful past as the former headquarters of the D.B. Fisk & Co. hat company. Playful references to that history remain throughout the hotel and at Fisk & Co., which opened last year on the ground floor. Vintage-inspired hats from the millinery 10th Street Hats are available for purchase in the lobby and suites. Fashion students at nearby Columbia College designed hats and accessories—coursework for the school’s newly created millinery class—that will be displayed in the lobby and worn by hotel staff.
