Ormond Group has launched a new hospitality concept called MoMo’s. The first property, a 99-room hotel, under the brand will open in central Kuala Lumpur this October. Sydney-based interiors and architecture studio Akin Atelier has led the design of MoMo’s Kuala Lumpur to bring founder Kelvin Ho’s vision to life.
MoMo’s strives to celebrate creative collaboration while offering a design-led lifestyle hotel at a valuable price point (starting rates will be around $40). Guestrooms are described as “micro.” Inward facing rooms look out onto a large gallery lightwell that provides the rooms with a curated moving image space. The design palette throughout the rooms and the communal spaces comprise raw concrete, laminated timber and combed plaster featuring throughout. Notes of dusty pinks, washed greens and aged brass are consistent throughout the furnishings, fabrics and ornaments.
The traditional hotel lobby is replaced by a social space that acts as a central hub for the property, also known as The Playground. Located on the ground floor, the space will be home to the property’s main events area. MoMosita’s, a new casual concept from Malaysian F&B operators Christian Bauer and Eddie Chew of Troika Sky Dining, is also housed on the ground floor. The eatery will be a self-serve dive bar also offering up tacos and snacks.
