Mama Shelter is heading to the U.K., with plans to convert The RE Hotel London Shoreditch into a 193-key boutique. Located in a former industrial neighborhood that’s become a hotbed of hotel development, including a recently opened representative of the Nobu flag, Mama Shelter Shoreditch is slated to debut next year.
Up-and-coming French designer Dion & Arles has been tapped to create the hotel’s interiors, which project participants say will be consistent with the brand’s other properties with a focus on creating the coziness of home. A coffee and pastry shop dubbed Mama’s Kiss will be located at the front entrance. Other plans include a 600-sq.-ft. lobby and 2,600 sq. ft. of meeting space, as well as a restaurant with an inside patio and outside terrace.
“Denizens of London have known for generations the cultural riches and inclusiveness of the British capital, such kindness an inviolable custom after crossing oceans and borders to the edge of Europe and beyond,” says Mama Shelter founder, Serge Trigano, whose family also co-founded Club Med. “At Mama, we embody the necessity of such kindness, with the warmth and generosity of family. All of our staff welcome weary travelers into the family with open arms.”
In addition to the London locale, the brand currently has hotels in Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Los Angeles and Rio de Janeiro, and plans to open properties in Prague, Toulouse, Lisbon, Dubai and Belgrade
