The new-build LUMA Hotel Times Square has debuted in Manhattan. Designed by locally based Peter Poon Architects, the 28-floor boutique is located adjacent to Bryant Park on 41st Street and features a sleek, all-glass curtain façade.
The property’s ground-floor lobby, lounge and restaurant were designed by CCS Architecture, a design studio with offices in San Francisco and New York that’s headed by Cass Calder Smith, who drew inspiration from the ethos of illumination to create the spaces’ look, project participants say.
The 130-key hotel plays up natural light and New York views with floor-to-ceiling windows. Project participants say the accommodations—which are equipped with Euro top beds and Frette linens, bathrobes and slippers—were created to be minimal, soothing and anticipatory of guest demands.
The hotel—the first to fly the LUMA flag—is also home to street-level signature restaurant, Ortzi. That Basque-inspired tapas restaurant and bar is a new concept from James Beard Award-winning Iron Chef, Jose Garces, and is operated by his namesake Philadelphia-based hospitality group. An adjacent bar offers ample bar and café-style seating.
The owner/developer behind LUMA Hotel Times Square is 41st Midtown Hotel LLC, while New York Midtown Hotel LLC will serve as the property’s manager.
