Strategic Property Partners LLC (SPP) said Marriott Intl.’s luxury JW Marriott flag will fly at a new hotel planned for downtown Tampa. Construction on the 519-key, 26-story JW Marriott Tampa will begin early this year and the hotel—designed by Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates with interiors by Champalimaud Design—is slated to open in 2020.
The hotel’s entrance will include a four-story atrium, while its ground floor will feature a full-service restaurant and retail outlets. Its sixth-floor will house a full-service spa and fitness center, as well as a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, bar, event lawn, a pool and sun terrace. The 26th floor will feature a rooftop lounge and terrace.
In addition, SPP said renovations are underway at its nearby 727-key Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina. The makeover of that hotel’s guest rooms and meeting spaces is being spearheaded by Looney & Associates, while its food and beverage offerings will be updated by The Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry. Renovations at the 17-year-old hotel are slated for completion early next year.
“Marriott International is thrilled to be part of SPP’s impressive Water Street Tampa [mixed-use] project, which will bring more people, new economic activity and cultural amenities into downtown Tampa,” says Noah Silverman, chief development officer, North America Full Service Hotels, Marriott Intl. “It’s a perfect setting both for a new JW Marriott and a fully upgraded Marriott.”
James Nozar, SPP ceo adds: “We are incredibly excited to extend our partnership with Marriott Intl., bring the JW Marriott brand to Water Street Tampa and significantly enhance the hospitality offerings in downtown Tampa. Not only are we bringing a new luxury hotel to the neighborhood, we are also reinvesting in the Marriott Waterside Tampa to create a one-of-a-kind hospitality experience for everyone to enjoy, with dynamic outdoor amenities seamlessly connected to the Tampa Riverwalk and adjacent marina.”
