Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) has plans to launch a new brand this year, according to ceo Keith Barr, speaking during the hotelier’s recent earnings call.

The new, unnamed all-suites brand will be positioned in the upper-midscale segment, which IHG says in its earnings release is “targeted at an $18-billion industry segment where strong guest and owner demand has driven an approximate 70 percent increase in room supply in the last four years.”

The news comes on the heels of the IHG’s $300-million acquisition last week of luxury group Six Senses from Pegasus Capital Advisors.
