Cannes’ historic Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez is closed for a major renovation and will partially reopen next March as Hotel Martinez, a member of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt Hotels Corp. Spearheading the updates to the hotel’s 409 guest rooms, public spaces, restaurants and terrace garden are Parisian design firm Pierre-Yves Rochon.

Situated on La Croisette, the property first served as a home to English aristocrats. Then, in 1929, luxury hotelier Emmanuel Martinez opened it as the largest hotel in the French Riviera. Current renovations aim to combine the hotel’s historic art deco style with contemporary elements, inspired by the colors of the Mediterranean. The white rooms, accented with touches of sky blue and pale yellow, will feature materials such as marble, leather, terrazzo and mosaic.

The hotel’s F&B offerings will include the two Michelin star restaurant La Palme d’Or and a second dining venue serving traditional Mediterranean cuisine. It will also feature 15 meeting rooms, spanning 26,900 sq. ft. The renovation is slated for full completion next May.

“Hotel Martinez will be a great addition to The Unbound Collection by Hyatt due to its distinct characteristics and personality,” says Alessandro Cresta, the property’s general manager. “The hotel is iconic and its history is truly incredible—all of which is an ideal brand fit. The renovation will focus on preserving and enhancing the original details of the building, all while giving it a fresh twist.”

Hotel Martinez will be the second European hotel to become part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt, which launched in 2016. It will join Hotel du Louvre in Paris, which debuted in 2016 and four additional properties globally: The Confidante Miami Beach; The Driskill in Austin; The Royal Palms Resort and Spa in Phoenix; and Carmelo Resort & Spa in Uruguay.
