Street murals have arrived at the guestrooms of the Hotel Chicago West Loop, a dual-purpose boutique hotel and art venue. As part of the hotel’s Annex | Murals exhibit, the four floor-to-ceiling, Chicago-themed murals were painted in the rooms by the city’s leading urban artists: Asend, Elloo, Brandin Hurley and Josh Grotto. The works join two others from Asend and JC Rivera painted earlier this year.
The Annex | Murals program will be open to the public for viewing— in The Annex alternative art gallery and in guestrooms when not in use. Hotel manager Portfolio Hotels & Resorts has doubled the number of contributing artists, and included its first two female artists to the exhibit since its inception in April. Plans call for the majority of the hotel’s 116 guestrooms to showcase street murals. New installs will take place twice a year.
The Annex is situated in the hotel lobby and all four levels of guest corridors, with more than 100 pieces of 2D media of both permanent works and rotating exhibits. The Annex also partners with local universities, galleries and art programs to rotate exhibits on an ongoing basis.
