Hoshino Resorts will open the 40-room Hoshino Resorts KAI Nagato at the Yumoto Onsen in Nagato, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan in March. The 16th property to open under the Japanese hot spring ryokan brand KAI, the Nagato location provides a riverside onsen experience surrounded by the northern Yamaguchi mountains.
Guestrooms are inspired by Yamaguchi samurai culture and based on the rooms that feudal lords used to stay in. The beds—which feature Tokuji Washi paper on headboards—are raised slightly and surrounded by a latticed enclosure. In the rooms’ alcoves, shelves will display KAI Nagato original Hagi pottery made by three creators (Takao Tahara, Masahiro Sakakura, and ZenemonSakakura) who live in the area.
