InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG’s) Holiday Inn Express (HIE) brand opened its 100th hotel in Canada with the launch of the 111-room Holiday Inn Express & Suites Trois-Rivières in Quebec, owned by Groupe Robin.

Holiday Inn Express, which has a 56-year history in Canada, is one of the fastest growing brands in IHG’s portfolio for that country. The brand accounts for 56% of the company’s Canadian portfolio.

“There is a market need for upper-midscale hotels. In 2017 alone, IHG Canada experienced unprecedented growth with 24 new hotels signings, the most we’ve seen in 10 years,” says Jonathan Lund, regional VP, Canada, IHG. “I have no doubt that IHG will continue to extend its leadership position in the midscale segment, offering significant opportunities to Canadian owners.”

Three additional recent openings for HIE round out the brand’s development in Canada: Holiday Inn Express & Suites Brantford, Holiday Inn Express & Suites Kelowna – East, and Holiday Inn Express & Suites Moncton.

IHG  has a total of 182 properties with over 25,000 rooms in Canada. Including all of IHG’s 13 hotels and resorts brands, the development pipeline in the country comprises 46 hotels with more than 5,000 rooms.
