Woodbine Development Corporation opened the first full-service hotel, the 337-room Houston CityPlace Marriott at Springwoods Village in Houston. The property, asset-managed by Aimbridge Hospitality, joins two other Marriott-branded hotels in the $10 billion, 2,000-acre sustainable master-planned community.

Gensler acted as architect and interior designer of the 10-story hotel to merge industrial and natural elements in the aesthetic. The interiors mix stone, tile, wood, metal and textured fabrics in earthy tones that balance out the modern furnishings, fixtures and finishes—90% of which was custom-designed for the hotel. Design also pays homage to the railway traditions of the region, seen in bespoke artwork, carpeting , lobby lanterns in the great room, interlacing railway tracks pattern above the front desk and main lobby elevators, and tooled-leather furniture throughout guestrooms and public spaces. Nature is then merged via design elements such as lighting fixtures that liken to pine needles on a forest path and circles of water created by rain drops on ponds.

The property also features 30,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space, including a 10,000 sq. ft. grand ballroom, a 4,000 sq. ft. junior ballroom and a pool bar. A three-meal restaurant, SwitcHouse – Plates and Pours, is the only full-service eatery in the CityPlace area.

CityPlace, which will offer 4.4 million sq. ft. of office and retail space within Springwoods Village, is being developed by a master development venture comprising Patrinely Group, USAA Real Estate Company and CDC Houston.
