Boutique Design Events and Trade Fairs

Marriott Intl., Detroit-based Roxbury Group and Means Group have debuted the Element brand in Michigan. A renovated 92-year-old neo-Gothic building is the new home for the 110-room Element Detroit at the Metropolitan. The property is being managed by Azul Hospitality of San Diego, and Quinn Evans Architects handled design.

The Metropolitan Building first opened in 1925 and was a destination for jewelers and shoppers. Many of the building’s original features were preserved during the renovation process, including the exterior façade, an ornate vaulted ceiling in the interior lobby, interior decorative stair cases and original terrazzo flooring on the guest corridors. The original storefronts of the jewelry stores have been conserved on the second floor and repurposed as meeting rooms.

The hotel has over 5,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, which includes three event rooms. On the ground floor, 7,000 sq. ft. of retail space is housed. The property will also be home to a rooftop bar and patio, The Monarch Club at The Metropolitan, which will be the first of three food and beverage outlets to open in the first quarter of the year.
