Following a multimillion-dollar, top-to-bottom renovation, the Drake Oak Brook opened as part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection in Chicago.
Built in 1961 as an extension of the Drake Hotel in Downtown Chicago, the hotel has enjoyed celebrity status for decades, playing host to guests like Frank Sinatra, Rock Hudson, and Prince Charles of Wales. The hotel’s renovationis deeply embedded in the nostalgia of this building and pays homage to years of history and Oak Brook allure, complemented by modern accommodations and amenities.
Celano Design Studio led the interior design refresh for the 154-room hotel. The palette comprises hues of blue, gray, and burgundy; natural materials including various woodwork enhanced by leather touches; and sprinkles of gold accents. Advocating for the original through art, the Drake Oak Brook, which is situated inside aformer building where keys were once made, prides itself in its international artwork andhandcrafted design pieces. Its interiors feature the work of some of Mexico’s most celebrated artists. Guests are met by dramatic artistic integrations, such as a one-ton handcrafted wooden reception desk carved by a Mexican artist who created pieces for Pope John Paul II, as well as a Flower Room displaying hundreds of vibrant glass flowers weighing 18,000 pounds in a floor-to-ceiling, glass-enclosed terrace overlooking acres of gardens and fountains.
