citizenM announced plans to introduce the brand to Chicago with a newly constructed hotel that will be part of Sterling Bay’s mixed-use development. The project, developed in partnership with Magellan Development Group, includes a 47-story tower with 289 residential units, 25,000 sq. ft. of retail space and 280 hotel rooms. A subsidiary of citizenM will acquire the hotel upon its completion, subject to the realization of certain construction and opening milestones.
citizenM Chicago Downtown will feature the hotel company’s signature interiors designed by Amsterdam-based design firm Concrete, a longtime design partner of citizenM, in conjunction with Chicago’s bKL, serving as lead architect of the mixed-use complex. The hotel’s interiors will draw inspiration from the local community, filled with an eclectic mix of contemporary art, photography and objects by local artists.
The Netherlands-based hotel brand’s Chicago project adds to the three latest citizenM locations recently opened in Boston and New York City, as well as other U.S. hotel projects under development in Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. Abroad, the company operates hotels in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Glasgow, Kuala Lumpur, London, Paris, Rotterdam, Shanghai, Taipei, and Zurich.
