New Complex Debuts at Pebble Beach Resorts

HBA, Fletcher + Hardoin team on Fairway One in California

California’s Pebble Beach Resorts has opened a new guest room and meeting complex at The Lodge, one of four golf resorts at the property located between Monterey and Carmel. Dubbed Fairway One, the new complex features 38 guest rooms and two stand-alone cottages, as well as a separate meeting facility that overlooks the first fairway of the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links.

Featuring interiors by international hospitality design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) and exterior architecture by locally based Fletcher + Hardoin, Fairway One is comprised of three two-story buildings with 10 guest rooms each, two four-bedroom golf cottages, and the event facility. The complex offers views of the golf course, internal gardens or the Pacific Ocean, with outdoor hardscape and landscape design by Bennitt Design Group of Long Beach, California. San Francisco-based Swinerton Builders served as the complex’s general contractor.

Named The Eastwood Cottage and The Palmer Cottage after two famed Pebble Beach owners/board members—Clint Eastwood and Arnold Palmer—both of the stand-alone units bear a white palette accented with earth tones to complement The Lodge’s interior style. Each is home to a 1,000-sq.-ft. living room with 17-ft.-high, wood-beam ceilings, wood millwork and floor-to-ceiling, stacked-stone fireplaces. Two king bedrooms, two queen bedrooms and an outdoor terrace with a fire pit are also on tap.

Guest rooms, which are located behind the cottages, start at 660 sq. ft. and feature oversized picture windows and terraces, as well as a soft neutral color scheme that project participants say evokes a beachside cottage. The accommodations also showcase architectural lighting by HBA’s lighting design unit.

Anchored by a 2,500-sq.-ft. space with a capacity of 225 guests, the meeting facility frames views of the first green with floor-to-ceiling windows. The designers incorporated local art, natural materials and colors, and tactile finishes throughout the building to reflect the character of Pebble Beach, project participants say. In addition to the main meeting room, the facility encompasses a board room, a living room pre-event space and a terrace patio.

The property’s owners plan to continue renovations next winter at The Lodge, where 98 guest rooms have already been completed. The ocean-front room redesign involves expanding window walls by 30 percent to play up views of Pebble Beach Golf Links, Carmel Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Ocean-front patios and decks are also doubling in size. For the lodge bedrooms, the revamp includes new furnishings and accessories, bathroom upgrades, a new fireplace wall and the addition of air conditioning. Building exteriors will also get a new look as part of the project, incorporating wood, stone and stucco.

Guest rooms at another Pebble Beach resort, The Inn at Spanish Bay, are also being revamped. That work involves the reconfiguration of window walls, the incorporation of new bedroom furniture and accessories, the addition of built-in desks and minibar spaces, marble fireplace updates, and bathroom fixture and lighting upgrades.

In addition, project backers are planning to update guest room interiors at Casa Palmero next December and January, with the goal of preserving the boutique, 24-key property’s Mediterranean style. Projected completion dates for other spaces at The Lodge, as well as renovations at The Inn and Casa Palmero, were not immediately available.
