Loews Partners on Convention Hotel in Kansas City
800-key property to debut in 2020
Loews Hotels & Co. is teaming with local investors to develop the Loews Kansas City (KC) Convention Center Hotel in Missouri. Work on the 800-key project is slated to start later this year and be completed in early 2020.
Cooper Carry of Atlanta is the architect of the 23-story, L-shaped hotel, The Kansas City Star reported in April. Other coverage by the paper also said plans originally called for the property to be a Hyatt Regency.
Loews Corp.’s New York-based hospitality unit is a joint equity partner in the $311 million venture with KC Hotel Developers LLC. In addition to accommodations, plans for the hotel include a lobby bar, a signature restaurant, a three-meal dining concept, an indoor lap pool and 60,000 sq. ft. of meeting/event space, which will connect directly to the city’s convention center via a new bridge.
“At Loews we carefully and deliberately choose which markets to enter, and we are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to add to our Midwest footprint with the new Loews Kansas City Convention Center Hotel,” says Jonathan Tisch, chairman and ceo, Loews Hotels & Co. “Kansas City is a vibrant destination and we look forward to investing in and becoming an active part of the community.”
Mike Burke, principal at KC Hotel Developers LLC, adds: “With Loews Hotels’ substantial equity investment and their management expertise, we have a complete alignment of interests in making sure the hotel is financed, built and operated successfully. Loews is known for expertly operating large group hotels with 4-star-plus quality that are tailored to the individual markets, for creating a great work environment for their employees and for being very involved in the communities where they operate. We have been impressed by the commitment of Loews' senior management to Kansas City and to this partnership.”
Loews currently owns and/or operates 24 hotels and resorts across the U.S. and Canada.
