Allegiant Travel Company and TPG Sixth Street Partners (TSSP), the global finance and investment firm, have entered an agreement to finance the development of Sunseeker Resorts Charlotte Harbor—Allegiant’s planned resort in the Charlotte County / Punta Gorda area in southwest Florida.
Under the agreement, TSSP has committed $175 million in initial funding to support construction of the debut hotel under Allegiant’s Sunseeker Resorts brand. This commitment represents the first piece of a long-term, potential $1-billion partnership to develop the Sunseeker Resorts imprint, and will provide opportunities to develop future phases for Sunseeker Resorts Charlotte Harbor, additional properties or related ventures at the discretion of both companies.
Construction for the first phase of the new-build Sunseeker Resorts Charlotte Harbor breaks ground this week. The resort’s initial phase will feature 510 guestrooms, 189 extended-stay suites, meeting space, and multiple restaurants, bars and retail outlets. Construction on the first phase is expected to be completed in 18 to 24 months.
The move is a strategic investment for Allegiant, which operates flights from nearby St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, Orlando Sanford International Airport and Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport—all within a two-hour drive of Charlotte Harbor.
