Larry and Brad Korman, co-ceos of Korman Communities, known for the serviced-residences brand AKA, are entering the hotel space with the AKA Smyth Tribeca. It’s their first true hotel and sixth property in New York City.
The hotel, formerly known as the Smyth a Thompson Hotel, was purchased in December by Korman in partnership with Shorewood Real Estate Group LLC and Prodigy Network. The 100-room hotel is designed by Gachot Studios.
James Beard-award-winning Chef Andrew Carmellini of NoHo Hospitality Group will remain with ground-level restaurant Little Park. The eatery’s team will also continue to manage the lobby bar, room service, private dining and catering. Many of the same operating team members from the former Smyth will remain.
AKA Hotel Residences has a portfolio of 10 luxury hotel residences in metropolitan locations, including New York City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and London.
