Gaylord Heads to Colorado
Property includes 485,000 sq. ft. of convention center space
Marriott Intl. has opened its fifth Gaylord Hotels property in Aurora, Colorado. The 1,501-room Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center is the largest combined resort and convention center in the state. RIDA Development Corp. and Marriott developed the hotel built by joint-venture Mortenson/WELBRO.
The development includes 485,000 sq. ft. of convention center space and an indoor/outdoor water park on an 85-acre site. The newbuild property features interior design and décor modeled after aspects iconic to Colorado. Everything nods to the area, from cascading waterfalls over boulders and local nature artwork to native landscaping and elevators designed to look like old mine shafts, paying tribute to Colorado’s gold rush history.
The look is carried over into guestrooms, adorned with aspen tree-inspired carpets, lumberjack plaid print pillows, and hiking and camping maps in the closets. In the convention center, elements that represent ski tracks, snow drifts and snowflakes can be seen throughout. The property also includes eight food and beverage outlets, a 17-room spa and a total of 22,000 sq. ft. of water experiences.
