Design team includes Richard Meier
Starwood Hotels & Resorts announced plans to open its second W Hotels locale in Mexico City, a 132-key locale within the city’s Santa Fe business district. The hotel, slated to open in 2014, will be managed under an agreement between Starwood, ALHEL and GIM Desarrollos.
The hotel will be housed in a new build, mixed-use development, called Liberty Plaza, and will be designed by Richard Meier, Edmonds International and Krause + Sawyer. The city’s first W Hotel, in the Polanco neighborhood, opened seven years ago.
“W Santa Fe will be a great addition to our existing Starwood portfolio in Mexico,” said Osvaldo Librizzi, president of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Latin America. “Sante Fe is quickly becoming an important financial and business district for Latin America, and W will bring modern style and dynamic energy to this bustling neighborhood.”
In addition to its design by architect Meier, the hotel’s interiors will be being created jointly by Mexico-based Edmonds International and New York-based Krause + Sawyer. The hotel’s lobby will feature a dramatic staircase as its sculptural centerpiece, and the site will also feature several destination bar and restaurant options, including W’s signature Living Room bar and café; WET pool deck with outdoor bar; a 4,000 sq. ft. Away Spa with nine treatment rooms; a Sweat fitness facility; and 7,800 sq. ft. of meeting/event space.
