Chattanooga hostel earns green status
The Crash Pad: An Uncommon Hostel in downtown Chattanooga, Tenn., has earned LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Designed by River Street Architecture, the hostel’s green features include solar panels, a green roof, reclaimed wood/brick, a precast insulated concrete wall system, LEDs, low-flow fixtures, greywater filtration systems and “green education” plaques throughout to inform guests about the locale’s sustainable features.
The Crash Pad is the first hostel in the U.S. to attain LEED certification and the first hostel in the world to attain Platinum status. The new Hostelling International Boston is also seeking LEED certification.
