Azuero Peninsula locale will include hotel
The Cubita Boutique Resort & Spa will open Oct. 12 in Chitre, an emerging commercial hub of Panama’s Azuero Peninsula. The property will feature a 100-key luxury hotel, convention center, restaurant, pool, sauna, gym and spa, along with a colonial chapel in its courtyard and a museum highlighting Azuero culture.
The complex’s owners—Panamanian financier Ivan Eskildsen and his wife, Maria Amelia Pezzotti—say the setting will offer a laid-back retreat from city life. “We realized that the city was experiencing a very interesting commercial expansion, and we immediately fell in love with the warmth of its people, the wealth of traditions, and, above all, the down-home charm of the area,” the couple said in a joint statement.
Panama has also been drawing interest from U.S.-based hoteliers; earlier this week, for example, Ace Hotel announced plans for a new hotel in Panama City.
