Adds poolside cabanas, lobby bar
Morgans Hotel Group has unveiled its redesign of the 237-key Mondrian Los Angeles with the introduction of three new public spaces, including new poolside cabanas, a lobby bar/cafe and BASE lifestyle store. Morgans’ in-house design revamped the hotel, which was originally designed by Phillipe Starck in 1996 and updated by Benjamin Noriega Ortiz in 2008.
“To revitalize the property's signature style, we looked to create a whimsical yet sophisticated environment, drawing inspiration from California's serene coastal landscapes and the Sunset Strip's glamorous and electrifying atmosphere,” says Verena Haller, Morgans’ senior vice president of design.
In the expanded hotel lobby, designers relocated the front desk to enlarge the lounge area and added custom furniture. The new lobby bar offers a white stone bar, purple seating and white lacquered cabinets that transform into polished-bronze mirrors at night. The designers preserved the hotel’s warm marigold and purple palette, iconic Lucite indoor swing and mushroom-inspired concierge desk.
The hotel’s new poolside cabanas feature maple wood floors, white furniture, fully retractable doors, comfortable seating and colored recessed lighting. In addition, the Skybar poolside lounge was updated with new natural teak furniture and metal lanterns.
