Carpet maker teams with Architecture 2030

InterfaceFLOR, a modular carpet tile manufacturer, has adopted Architecture 2030’s challenge for products. The non-profit group’s initiative calls on the architecture, planning, design and building communities to create and specify products with a carbon footprint 30 percent below the product average through 2014, with further reduced goals for the future.

“Building materials and products are increasingly having a significant impact,” challenge director Francesca Desmarais says. “With InterfaceFLOR’s acknowledged reputation and position as a steward of sustainability, we are grateful that they have so resoundingly joined our efforts.”

InterfaceFLOR’s other green efforts include Mission Zero, its initiative to eliminate the use of oil in manufacturing by 2020; full disclosure of products life cycle performance through Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs); and transparency in eco-labeling.

Other organizations that support Architecture 2030 include Athena Sustainable Materials Institute, BuildingGreen, Carbon Leadership Forum, The Green Standard, Green Wizard, Healthy Building Network and Sphere E.
