Full name: Crayhton “Cray” Bauxmont Flynn

Title: Sr. Designer / Architect

Hometown: Cape Town, South Africa

Why I love what I do:
Designing a hotel or home is one of life’s most inspiring experiences. It’s an opportunity to allow ourselves to dream and explore, to play with color, texture, space and light — ultimately creating a lifestyle. The inspiration is as much in the journey as the destination.

What I’m currently working on:
Fairmont Vail; La Quinta Resort; Snowmass Base Village, Aspen Colorado (3 residential buildings); and a luxury condo complex in Malibu.

What I wish the world knew about interior design:
The easiest way to fix a room that feels wrong is to paint the room a sexy color and install dimmers — keep the lighting low — lighting is the key to all good design.

What fascinates me:
Organic materials, they evoke a feeling of peace. I am provoked and stirred by strong graphic moments.

My mantra is:
The inspiration is as much in the journey as the destination.

Something you don’t know about me:
I’m a rugby and ice hockey player, plus a well-kept secret — I trained to be on the French Olympic fencing team. I also can my own foods.

What I’d love to do before I die:
Sail around the world and anchor for a few months at the Balearic island of Formentera and Filicudi, in the Aeolian archipelago.
