Glenmere Mansion Restoration Channels Tuscan Charm

The newly renovated Glenmere MansionThe newly renovated Glenmere Mansion

T he restoration of the Glenmere mansion in the lower Hudson Valley means New Yorkers no longer need to cross the Atlantic for a taste of Tuscany.

Less than 50 miles north of Manhattan, the 150-acre property in Chester, New York offers 19 Italianate guest rooms ranging from $550 to $3,500 per night. The renovated luxury villa originally designed by architects Carrere & Hastings in 1911 combines contemporary luxury with the authentic central open cortile, marbled column porticos and dramatic interior staircases fashioned nearly a century ago.

Accommodations include deluxe and superior bedrooms, junior suites and premium suites, each furnished with custom-designed Italian linens, marble baths with heated floors, iPod docking stations and high speed Internet. The Penthouse features private elevator access to a two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite with three fireplaces, a large, formal living room, dining area, butler's bar and expansive terrace, while the Ogden suite includes access to an intimate private garden.

The Supper Room provides an intimate dining experience, with Candle-lit ambiance and hand-painted panels depicting the Tuscan landscape. Full bar service, lunch and informal evening meals can be enjoyed in the Frog's End Tavern.
